Frank Kinyon is the Wine Director of James Beard Foundation nominated a.kitchen+bar, an American restaurant focused on seasonally inspired ingredients and innovative cocktails, located within AKA Rittenhouse Square. Prior to joining the a.kitchen+bar team, Frank built out his career starting at Osteria, a fine-dining, seasonal Italian restaurant in Philadelphia, learning under the guidance of Lead Sommelier Elizabeth Flamini. After about a year in his role at Osteria, Frank became the floor Sommelier where he eventually took over the beverage program. In that year, the restaurant earned Two Glasses from Wine Spectator. Frank grew an eye for unique and natural wine, bringing him to the a.kitchen+bar team in 2017 where he focuses on overseeing the forward-thinking and edgy wine program.
Throughout his career, Frank has earned a number of glowing accolades in the industry including: Wine Spectator’s Award of Excellence earning one glass in 2017 and two glasses in 2018 at Osteria, one glass in 2020 and 2022 at a.kitchen+bar and StarChefs Rising Star Sommelier 2024. Frank is also a WSET Level Three Sommelier. Most recently, Frank guided the a.kitchen+bar team to be a nominee for the 2022 & 2024 James Beard Foundation Awards Outstanding Wine Program. Notably, during the pandemic Frank spearheaded a pivot turning a.bar into a curated wine shop that became a beloved destination for approachable high-quality bottles.
When Frank is not working, you can find him studying Japanese, learning how to play the banjo, and reading about wine. He resides in South Philadelphia with his two terriers, Waldo and Buck Buck.
